At Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne:
5-7 September 2008 Turner 500 & Hancock 200: Naturalists in North East England
Joint meeting with the Natural History Society of Northumbria
This meeting will focus on the 500th anniversary of the birth of William Turner, English naturalist, botanist, and theologian known as the “father of English botany” and the 200th anniversary of the birth of John Hancock, ornithologist and taxidermist. Other north-east naturalists who were influenced by Turner and Hancock, or who inspired them, will feature in the programme. Visits to places associated with those people will be part of the programme which is planned to begin on Friday afternoon 5 September 2008.
